On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This declaration was made due to the rapid spread of the virus and to mobilize a global coordinated effort to enhance preparedness globally and especially in vulnerable states with weakened health systems.

New cases are identified daily. See the World Health Organization (WHO) operations dashboard, the  WHO website, or the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) website for the latest surveillance information on the outbreak.
