The Outbreak Toolkit is an online resource created for epidemiologists, public health nurses, environmental health officers, and other public health practitioners involved in enteric outbreak investigations. The purpose of outbreaktools.ca is to strengthen capacity for investigating and responding to enteric outbreaks.
Improve knowledge and skills in tools used in enteric outbreak investigations
Developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), in collaboration with the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID) and the National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health (NCCEH), outbreaktools.ca is a Canadian-based, bilingual resource that allows practitioners to improve knowledge and skills in tools used in enteric outbreak investigations.
The Outbreak Toolkit is a one-stop-shop to strengthen capacity for investigating enteric outbreaks at the local, provincial, territorial, or federal level. The Toolkit is neither an introductory course nor a guidance document for outbreak investigation in Canada.
It has three main parts:
- background information on enteric illness investigation;
- tools to manage an enteric illness outbreak; and,
- case study exercises to practice concepts and skills.
